Amsterdam City Councils
The new Amsterdam bench of Alderman was inaugurated on 19 May 2010 during a city council meeting. The new bench comprises members of three political parties: the VVD (People's Party for Freedom and Democracy), GroenLinks (Green Left) and the PvdA (Dutch Labour Party).
District Councils
Amsterdam is divided up into seven districts. Each district has extensive independent powers, their own budget and team of civil servants.
